Land Not Sand - PC Letter of Objection Longworth Parish Council has written to the Oxford County Council Environment department with a formal objection to the latest Planning Application from Hansons to dig a sand pit adjacent to Pine Woods Road. Click here to read the letter. » Posted 26 August 2011 « |
Village Meeting - Land Not Sand A village meeting will be held at 7:30 pm on Wednesday 10th August in The Barn, Longworth Manor to discuss Hanson's latest planning application to extract sand from the land to the west of Pine Woods Road. Sand Pit - New Planning Application Residents of Longworth and Hinton should know that Hanson have now submitted to the OCC their second attempt at getting approval to quarry soft sand in the field alongside Pine Woods Road. Their revised application makes some few concessions to the issues raised at the time of their first application three years ago, issues of windblown sand, machinery noise, soil water diversion and intrusive proximity to houses, but it contains a major change in its policy towards the A420/Pine Woods Road junction. Residents will recall that the original application went to extreme lengths to make the junction safe for their lorries, including making amendments to carriageways, road layout and speed limits. This time Hanson and their consultants contend instead that the junction in its existing form, despite its accident record, is safe, and will not be made any less so by the addition of their HGV traffic.
Residents who have comments, or even objections, to the application are asked to write, email or phone county planning officer Taufiq Islam before 18 August 2011. Taufiq’s email is mohammad.islam@oxfordshire.gov.uk, and his phone number is 01865 815884. The application can be seen at Speedwell House, Oxford or on the OCC website at http://myeplanning.oxfordshire.gov.uk, reference MW.0080/11
The Longworth and Hinton Land not Sand group will of course be registering its own reasoned objections against this proposal.

HISSEY family History Hi. If you would like to help me locate my ancestors through the church records at Longworth or Buckland, then I'd love to hear from you. My family were integral in the Longworth area. They were the manor owners for over 500 years. They helped begin the first school in Longworth, and one was even a Rector of Longworth. His Name is cast into your Longworth Church bell. (Hissey. ) If you have a bit of spare time to search records at the 2 churches, we could work something out financially.
I am also trying to get hold of a copy of the book "Longworth through the centuries" by Jasmine Howse. Can you help send a copy to Australia. I will pay for it and the shipping of course. And also a book
MARTEN'S HALL FARM, LONGWORTH, A HISTORY by Peter Bushell. Anyone with access to the Longworth society, ....they have both of these books.
If you are a kind hearted teenager wanting some extra cash, or a sweet older retired person with a bit of time on your hands, how about thinking about helping a family member of one of Longworth integral families. I would be SOOOOOOOO appreciative if you could help me. Its only time and you would be helping me sooo much.
Thankyou.
Joanne Goodsell Nee HISSEY
Ancestor of the Yates family, Henry Marten, and of course the Hisseys of Longworth. » Posted 1 March 2008 by joraeme@unwired.com.au « |

Search for Edna Barber Could anyone give me info on Edna Barber a wonderful women who ran Longworth guides during the 1970's. I don't even know if she is still alive. She devouted so much time to young people I wondered if she was ever recognised? I left the area in 1976 and think of her often. Guiding opened my eyes to many opportunities thanks to Edna I became a Queen's Guide. My family lived in Southmoor for 20 years until they moved south.

Richings I tried to contact Chris James (cjames@f2s.com) but
without success. If Chris would like further information
about Richings, please provide a working address. » Posted 14 November 2006 « |
Richings Family History I believe I am descended from Ernest and Eliza Richings, who lived in Tuck's Lane in the 1880's. Their daughter Ellen, later Helen, was living (I suspect as an employee) in Sudbury House, Longworth when she married my grandfather Arthur James in Reading in 1903.
Helen had an older brother William and a younger brother Ernest, who was killed in 1945 and is on the War Memorial in St Mary's.
If you have any information that could relate to any of this, I'd be very pleased to hear from you. » Posted 12 January 2006 by Chris James, cjames@f2s.com « |
