Longworth 10k 2011
Many thanks to everyone involved in this year’s run – participants and Longworth locals who helped in the organisation – for making it another successful fundraiser for HALF!
Although our numbers were down on previous years due to the rival attraction of the Oxford Half Marathon - a newcomer which has muscled in on our traditional slot - we still managed 65 entrants and raised £400.
A strong contingent from the Abingdon School Cross-Country Club, for whom the Longworth 10k is now a regular fixture in their training schedule, turned in their usual impressive performance. Philip Hatzis was fastest overall, and Thomas Kelly was fastest under-18.
Caeron Phillips was fastest female, Chris Bedford of Abingdon Amblers was fastest male over 45, and Cathie Wiskin was fastest female over 45.
All were awarded Longworth 10k pottery mugs, kindly sponsored by the Blue Boar. Philip and Caeron will also have their names added to commemorative trophies on permanent display in the Blue Boar, kindly sponsored by The Oxford Wine Company.
For the second year in succession, the hotly contested Best Performance by a Local award went to Greg Muller, who gets to keep the prestigious trophy for another year!
