The Big Lunch
Our thanks to all those some 140 of you who came to The Longworth Big Lunch, and evidently enjoyed yourselves! It went well from our point of view, and was well worth the effort - it will be much easier for next year - please let us know of you could help. This year we gained too as Martin practiced fisherman's bends whilst up a ladder, and Carol practiced telling him that (he and) the bunting did not need to be so high up!

It was good that some 13 organisations displayed what they do for the village, but sad that their efforts seemed to get so little notice - our thanks to the Parish Church, the Parish Council, Longworth School, the Preschool, the Hinton and Longworth Educational Fund (HALF), The Longworth Environmental Network (LEN), Longworth and District History Society (LHS), the Village Hall Committee, the Film Club, the Baby and Toddler Group, the Aerobics and Pilates Groups, the Longworth Womens Institute, and the Oxford Garden Project (sorry if we missed any).

Fortunately we held off from trying to pack onto the Village Hall when drizzle threatened in mid morning, and we were rewarded as weather improved to give some sunshine so that we could appreciate the several Fairford Air Show formation fly-pasts, even if they could not hear our applause over the noise of their engines!

The atmosphere of the street party is captured in pictures, some of which we have seen, and we hope many of you will send us more to show, on both the longworthvillage.org.uk website and thebiglunch.com website, what Longworth did on the day. But also we should perhaps start a rogues gallery in the village hall so that we can all learn the names of those we do not yet know!

Again our thanks to all, especially those who helped in preparations, and in recycling and clearing away.

Martin and Carol Hall
